Biography

Snigdha Prabhakar is a Bangalore-based contemporary dancer, choreographer and teacher. She trained in Bharatanatyam for seven years In her early years, followed by Street forms, namely House and Breaking. Her formal contemporary dance training was at the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, where she worked as one of the principal dancers for five years. Snigdha has toured extensively across Europe, China and Canada as one of the main casts for several company dance productions. She is an AWARDED PERFORMER at the Prakriti Excellence in Contemporary Dance Awards (PECDA 2018) for her work, Rihai. Her current independent artistic collaboration includes most work with a Bangalore-based dance collective called Citizens of Stage Co Lab. Absence Presence (site-specific piece) choreographed by Sonia Rodrguez Hernandez, ISSHH(क), a production choreographed by Nicole Sieler, Einstein’s Dreams by Bangalore Little Theatre, End Of The Wall by Atalya Baumer and Tamar Mayz, How Long is Forever by Priyabrat Panigrahi, A Pair of Wings I Wish For by Silk Route Theatre, Persistence of being by Abhilash Ningappa are some of her independent collaborations. Snigdha’s choreographic works are Relax into Your Being, Devi, The Sun’s Child, and Rihai. Ongoing political and social scenarios extensively inspire her creative work. As an artist, she feels the urge to speak up, contribute and stand in solidarity with those in need by using her most potent weapon: physical expression.
